Bringing Super-Funky Entertainment to Superfine

BROOKLYN, NY – Super-funky, super-fun, Superfine. Join Jam On DUMBO for our 2012 Winter Concert Series, held at DUMBO’s iconic Superfine restaurant, 126 Front Street.

Tickets are $20 per family, available at the door (cash only). Doors open at 4 p.m. for all concerts, and the shows start at 4:30. Superfine will be providing a special kids’ menu before and after the concert, and there will be free face-painting and balloons.

Here’s the lineup of acts:

Jan. 15, 2012 – The Rockdoves: “cool music for kids made with parents in mind”!

Feb. 12, 2012 – Teen rockers Still Saffire will perform their second Jam On event, after bringing the house down at our Summer Music Festival!

March 11, 2012 – Shine & the Moonbeams will bring some soul to Superfine with their “groove-heavy R&B musical extravaganza”!

This year’s concert series will raise money for Jam On DUMBO’s community outreach efforts – particularly Jam On DUMBO’s partnership with P.S. 307, a public elementary school that serves a public housing complex that sits on the edge of the Brooklyn Navy Yard. Despite the school’s blighted surroundings, the principal is dedicated to expanding the students’ worldviews, especially to the arts.

That’s why Jam On DUMBO has committed to produce the school’s first Music Week this spring, which will bring a variety of musicians to the school to entertain and educate the students the week of May 21st-25th. Funds from our winter music series will help pay to bring Project Rhythm’s mobile recording studio to the school, so that students can write and record their own music over the course of the week.

Jam On DUMBO was founded in late 2010 by a group of local parents looking to bring more children’s music programming to cobblestone-lined DUMBO (Down Under the Manhattan Bridge Overpass). Along with the Winter Concert Series and our community outreach projects, the organization produces a free Summer Family Music Festival each year.

The band was formed in 2009 by New York City singer-songwriters Daniel Cole and Kim West, who have been writing and performing music together for over eight years. A shared interest in children’s music, along with a spontaneous creative moment during a rehearsal, gave birth to the first Rockdoves song, “See The Seasons”, and to their unique brand of “cool music for kids made with parents in mind”. Daniel’s experience as a preschool teacher, coupled with Kim’s theatrical background, proved to be the perfect creative combination to inspire a collection of positive, thoughtful tunes for children. After releasing their debut album, “From the Birds”, in October 2010, The Rockdoves were soon featured in Time Out New York Kids magazine, and their songs “Don’t And Do Blues” and “Giraffe Laugh (and other animal sounds)” were selected to be part of Tor Hyams’ Kindiecast podcasts. Through an active social media presence and dynamic live performances, their fan network and industry buzz continue to blossom and grow.

The Rockdoves’ music touches on everything from urban living and nature, to the value of friendship, family, and home. Drawing inspiration from folk to the blues to rock ‘n roll, The Rockdoves offer an exciting, interactive live performance that delights audiences with its blend of education, comedy, and storytelling. At a Rockdoves concert, children are performers, too, as they transform into animals, dance to fun grooves, and sing, shout, and cheer. Whether entertaining for private events or performing in large public settings such as Summer In The Square in NYC’s Union Square Park, The Rockdoves are thrilled by the exuberance and energy of their audiences, and invite you to join in the fun!

One of Still Saffire’s missions is to ‘play for a cause’ and, in their short time together, the band has performed at over thirty benefits and fund raisers. They established the ‘Still Saffire Sisters Scholarship Fund,’ which offers sisters the opportunity to experience a summer program at Willie Mae Rock Camp for Girls in Brooklyn, NY, a non-profit organization whose aim is to empower and mentor girls through music. Still Saffire also launched a tee-shirt project to raise money for the ongoing relief efforts of Partners in Health in Haiti. To date, over $1000 has been donated to PIH. They are talented, fresh sounding, socially conscious young musicians who are doing what they love most – playing music and making a difference in the world. Check them out at www.stillsaffire.us, www.youtube.com/saffiremusic and on Facebook.
